Cody Ware's Mom Slid Into My DMs

Imagine my surprise when I'm checking Couch Racer DMs for our usual handful of customers wondering where their orders are (they're coming, I swear) or if we're shipping to Canada any time soon (probably not, sorry) when I see a familiar name. Lisa Ware sent a couple messages voicing her displeasure with some thoughts we've shared about her son, Cody Ware. The latest example was after the 51 car spun out by himself at Dover racing hard against no one for who-knows what place fighting to stay 3-laps down and collecting the 4th place car in his wreck. We shot out a tweet which compared Cody to that swerving guy on the highway we've all been behind; no one wants to be next to him but he's going so slow you really have no choice.

Let me say first, Mrs. Ware was not rude, unhinged, or hateful in any way. She's really just being a mom in the most pure--yet outrageous and hilarious way imaginable, DMing critics and telling them they're mean to her 26-year-old son. Cody is about as popular as any driver with an average career finish of 32nd-place can be. A quick twitter search of "Cody Ware" will probably return more results than half the field and unfortunately you'll find about as many positive results as you would if you searched "middle east conflict." So to say, if Mrs. Ware is DMing everyone who tweets mean things about her son, she's probably the hardest working person at Rick Ware Racing.

Mrs. Ware also seemed to be confused about Couch Racer and maybe thinks that the DBC guys are the only Wizards behind the curtain. We are a (growing) community of contributors. I want to assure anyone that no matter how good Freddie and Brett say they are at spotting, they're not good enough to tweet and spot at the same time. And if you've followed Brett for more than a week without getting blocked (congrats), you know that if he has enough cell service to tweet at the track, the only thing he's tweeting is how bad the cell service is. So there have been things said in the past by others involved in this operation that I can't take responsibility for.

All of that being said, I don't hate Cody Ware. I couldn't pick Cody Ware out of a lineup. I don't know a single thing about Cody Ware's personality. All I know is that Cody Ware has a tendency to affect races when he shouldn't. And that can be annoying. He's the equivalent to a person in the audience at a comedy show telling their own jokes. Unaware that no one is there to see them and unwilling to just blend in.
